Shipping lines experiencing major space shortage in May - some delays to Into Store Dates

6/5/2016

To all our Valued Customers,

We have received information today that sailing programmes ex China to Australia are experiencing major problems due to space shortages, blank sailing programmes, liner withdrawals and the additional pressures due to the holiday period in May.

With the additional news around the potential withdrawal of both Hanjin Shipping and Hyundai Shipping Lines and the collision of capacity cuts (courtesy of CKA’s demise – additional space loss of an estimated +2% total trade vessel loadings at this time are peaking to +100% and it would appear it may continue for most of May.

For your information a blank sailing programme is a strategy introduced  by the shipping lines to reduce excess tonnage during non-peak periods such as we are seeing now. All shipping lines have re-introduced the blank sailings in the China/Hong Kong and Far East to Australia and New Zealand and the programme is carried out by all of the different shipping consortiums on different weeks each month.

With the addition of China holiday periods such as (May day) pressure is further applied with shipping line office closures and changes to the load planning of ships through the late April and May periods.

We do foresee some delays through a percentage of the May period but we will update your further as more information comes to hand.

We would be suggesting that all customers importing from the above areas add an additional 7 days to the into store time to cover any and all potential delays at this time.
